The main interest of the laboratory is to study how the alterations of your post-translational and signal transduction in the central nervous system (CNS) by the neurotrophins are related to neurodegeneration, and how these studies can lead to developing potential new therapies for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases in humans. At present, the research is focused on studying the function of NGF in neurodegeneration of Alzheimer’s type, with particular interest in the relationship between an erroneous signal transduction of NGF and its precursor (proNGF) and the incurring of those phenotypic alterations revealing for Alzheimer’s disease.

L’interesse principale del nostro laboratorio è quello di studiare come le alterazioni dei processi post-traduzionali e di trasduzione del segnale nel SNC ad opera delle neurotrofine siano legate all’innescarsi della neurodegenerazione, e come questo studio possa portarci a sviluppare nuove potenziali terapie per la cura delle malattie neurodegenerative nell’uomo.
Attualmente, la ricerca si è focalizzata sullo studio della funzione dell’NGF nella neurodegenerazione di tipo Alzheimer, con particolare interesse per la relazione tra un’errata traduzione del segnale del NGF e del suo precursore (proNGF) e l’insorgenza delle alterazioni fenotipiche che sono caratteristiche della malattia di Alzheimer.
