We approach a brain-revolution, probably greater than the industrial and information revolutions. Society must be ready for this as it will change in the most dramatic manner the way we will live in the near future. It is the duty of brain scientists to communicate this revolution to society
Brain scientists in the 21st century will enable the brain to understand itself in the most fundamental physical sense. We will be able to replace parts of the brain, replicate it, model it and amend sick brains. Consequently, we will be able to augment cognition and memory and thus improve our own brains.
Rome is clearly a magnetic focus for such an effort, both because of the great impact of Rome on Human Knowledge (the result of creative brains) but specifically because of one great brain is very active there for many years as well as today – that of Prof. Rita Levi-Montalcini.
Si sta preparando una rivoluzione del cervello, che probabilmente sarà ancor più importante di quella industriale e di quella informatica. La società deve essere pronta per questa rivoluzione perché cambierà in maniera assolutamente drammatica il modo in cui vivremo nel futuro prossimo. E’ compito degli scienziati che studiano il cervello comunicare questa rivoluzione alla società.
“Gli scienziati del cervello nel 21esimo secolo metteranno il cervello umano in grado di comprendere se stesso nella sua fondamentale realtà fisica. Saremo in grado di sostituire parti del cervello, replicarle, modellarle e riparare i cervelli malati. Di conseguenza, saremo in grado di espandere le capacità cognitive e la memoria e quindi di migliorare i nostri cervelli.
Roma rappresenta chiaramente un fulcro magnetico per noi, sia per il grosso impatto che il popolo di Roma ha avuto sulla conoscenza umana (il risultato di cervelli creativi) ma soprattutto perché ospita un grande cervello che è attivo nella città da tanti anni e lo è ancora oggi- quello della Prof.sa Rita Levi Montalcini.
